Does it work? After six months, yes. Shedding slowed around month three and regrowth showed up around months four and five. The catch: it's slow, and Wellbel says so itself. Wellbel advises against taking any supplement while pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor directs it.

I dye my hair. A lot. I've been blonde, I've been bronde, I've had balayage, and right now I'm dark dark brown, which is actually my natural color and took the longest to get back to. Years of that adds up, and I knew it.

So when I got pregnant and found out that pregnancy is not a friend to your hair on its best days, I got nervous early. Another mom told me she'd used Wellbel's shampoo and conditioner, so I bought both before I had any reason to yet. I held off on the supplements the whole time I was pregnant and the whole time I was breastfeeding, because Wellbel says not to take them then unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Then the postpartum shedding came anyway, because it comes for almost everyone. You've seen the memes where people can guess how old someone's kid is by how long the little fringe of regrowth around their hairline is. That's not a joke, that's just what happens. You lose your hair.

I did lose mine. What I'll say is that I bounced back a lot faster than a lot of my friends did, and the haircare is the only thing I was doing differently the whole way through.

That's the honest frame for this review. I used the shampoo and conditioner through pregnancy and postpartum. I only started the supplements after I finished breastfeeding. So I'm reviewing two things I came to at completely different times.

I bought the haircare first, on another mom's recommendation, months before the shedding started. It's the half I'd defend hardest, and it's the only part of this routine I used continuously through pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.

The Gelee Detox Shampoo is a scalp cleanser first. It doesn't strip and it doesn't squeak, and after a few washes my roots stopped going flat by day two. The Restorative Conditioner is a hyaluronic creme, heavy enough to matter on my ends without dragging the roots down.

They work together and they don't really work apart.

I ran the shampoo with my old conditioner for about three weeks and my ends went straw. I ran the conditioner with my old shampoo and my roots got greasy fast. The pair is doing something neither half does on its own, and that is the most useful thing I can tell you about this brand.

I didn't start these until I was done breastfeeding, so this is a six-month run that began well after the worst of the shedding. Nothing happened for the first two months. That's worth saying out loud, because it's where most people quit, and it's exactly what Wellbel tells you to expect.

Month three is when the shedding slowed down. Not stopped. Slowed. The shower drain stopped being a daily event, and after everything my hair had already been through that felt like an enormous amount of progress.

Months four and five brought the regrowth at my hairline, that fine baby-hair fringe that looks like nothing in the mirror and like a lot in a photo. By month six my part had closed up and my ponytail felt thicker in my hand, which is the least scientific measurement available and also the one every woman I know actually uses.

The catch: it's slow. If you want something you can see in six weeks, this isn't it. But good things come to those who wait!

Wellbel publishes three numbers: 94% noticed their hair seemed healthier, 88% noticed it seemed longer, 83% noticed it seemed fuller with new growth.

Read the source on those. It's an internal survey of 192 users at six months or more. It isn't a clinical trial, it isn't placebo-controlled, and the wording is careful in the way self-reported survey wording always is. “Seems to appear healthier” is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

That doesn't make it worthless. 192 people is real information and the direction matches my own six months. It's a different thing from a trial, though, and any review calling Wellbel “clinically proven” hasn't read the footnote. And it seriously worked for me.
